The Empty Manuscript
Confession

fuckyeahcharacterdevelopment:

If your character had to confess their sins, what would they list?  Would there be any that they would hide, even if they were able to remain anonymous?  Would they get a kick out of seeing the person they were confessing to cringe?  Would they list anything that many people wouldn’t even see as wrong?

-Shannah

This is actually a fantastic writing prompt. Just change it to Write a scene where your character has to confess their sins. There have been some excellent scenes in fiction all about people holding back true confession and about feeling the need to confess when there is every incentive not to. This doesn’t have to have religious overtones either. Pure admission of what they feel wrong about is all you need. It not only builds character, it can build plot tremendously as well through what they have done that drives them to that moment and who they are stuck with. Is it a friend they’ve wronged? Is it an enemy that will hold everything they say over their head?
